About the Role: Personal Insurance Underwriter
As a Personal Insurance Underwriter at Islands Insurance, you’ll support the delivery of sustainable, profitable growth. You will work with the underwriting team to service new and existing clients, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. You’ll evaluate insurance risks, propose policy terms, and negotiate to ensure fair outcomes and excellent customer service.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Analyse and evaluate risks; propose and negotiate policy terms.
- Work with the underwriting team to ensure compliance and service quality.
- Review, evaluate, and process existing client portfolios to meet service and performance targets.
- Liaise with underwriters to obtain appropriate policy coverage and terms.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, claims teams, sub-brokers, and capacity providers.
- Develop and maintain your knowledge and skills to serve clients professionally.
- Deliver short-term projects and activities as required by the Line Manager.
- Coach, train, and guide colleagues on complex risks, technical issues, and customer service.
What You’ll Need:
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Dip CII qualification. (desirable)
- 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English at Grade C or above.
- Broad knowledge of the general insurance market.
- Experience in an underwriting role with underwriting authority in a relevant sector.

To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Experience in customer service or client-facing roles.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks.
