About the role: High Net Worth (HNW) Underwriter
As a High Net Worth Underwriter at Islands Insurance Group, you’ll be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of high-value personal insurance risks for affluent clients. You’ll work closely with brokers, private client managers, and insurers to deliver bespoke solutions, ensuring profitability, underwriting excellence, and exceptional service delivery.
What you’ll be doing:
- Analysing and underwriting complex HNW personal insurance risks within delegated authority
- Managing a portfolio of HNW clients, ensuring profitability and high service standards
- Identifying and securing new HNW business through broker and intermediary engagementt
- Building strong relationships with brokers, private client managers, and internal teams
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and risk frameworks
- Monitoring market trends to inform underwriting strategy and product development
- Collaborating with Claims, Risk, and Actuarial teams to manage risk and improve service
- Contributing to process improvement and underwriting guidelines
- Mentoring and supporting the development of junior underwriters
- Producing and interpreting underwriting reports to support informed decision-making
What you’ll need:
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Relevant professional qualification (or substantial progress towards) is preferred e.g. DIP CII.
- Proven experience in underwriting HNW personal lines insurance (minimum 3–5 years preferred).
- Strong knowledge of the HNW market, including specialist products and client expectations.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a client-centric approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Familiarity with Channel Islands regulatory environment is advantageous.
